Still Here

I recently received a couple of worried messages asking if the project is abandoned

It is NOT abandoned, it is simply that work, racing and life in general have got in the way recently.

Fear Not!
We're still here.

Life Does Get In The Way, Doesn't It?

Hi Everyone

Well not as much to report as I'd hoped. Work has kept me on the move recently with no time to code - I have been using the downtime in hotels and airports to sketch and plan however so work on the AOP is ongoing.

In addition our figure has a face now.

Its slow but it IS progressing.

PLUS Pier Solar has arrived.

"Pier Solar" Ships!

Hello Everyone

Some of you may know I count some of the Water Melon team as friends.

I am therefore VERY pleased to be able to say I've received confirmation of the shipping of my order of Pier Solar for the Sega MegaDrive/Genesis/MegaCD - it's wonderful that such a massive undertaking can be brought to completion like this.

Retro/Homebrew RPGs can happen!

Kudos guys, KUDOS!

Pushing On

Hi All

Well work is still frantic - just taking a moments breather in fact - but the racing is over for the year - will try to push on now that there's a TINY bit more freetime.

The years Racing was fun with some decent results

2x 1st in Class
1x 2nd
1x 3rd
1x 4th
1x 5th
1x 6th
1x 8th
2x DNF

Twice qualified fastest in class, with 3 fastest laps.

The car has now gone for a rebuild to be ready to kick off again next year.

Will keep you updated.

All the Best,
Joe

Still Progressing

Hi Everyone,

Sorry again for the quietness... life has been somewhat hectic, and is likely to continue to be for the immediate future.

Nevertheless two major additions to the polygon engines are now working... I won't say what they are just yet, hopefully we'll have something to show before too long which will make the point more eloquently than I can with words.

All the Best,
Joe

Why so Quiet? - What's Happening Now?

Hello Everyone

Well I thought I'd let you know that whilst we're quiet on the posting front things are not standing still.

We came up with a rough idea for a game (well a couple of games really) well before we even got involved with the Jaguar. In about 2004 both these ideas progressed and in 2007 I put together a summary of the Adventure/RPG concept. This was about 5 pages and outlined the general plot, some characters (including concept art) and gameplay ideas.

As I mentioned previously 2008 was a very hard year so things were rather forgotten... in addition, around then, the second game concept was abandoned in order to concentrate on the Adventure. I pushed on with the engine in 2009 and you were able to see the fruits of this labour at the JagFests and on Youtube. Since then work has continued on the engine... and also on the design document so that we know exactly what we intend and do and thus do not waste further time on "what ifs".

Well the 5 page design notes are now up to 40 pages and many of the disparate ideas have been either tied into a coherent whole or abandoned in order to maintain focus.

In summary - work is progressing both in the coding and in planning.
Fear not.

A Door Re-Opens (Atari Owl Project in M!Games)

Hello Everyone

Sorry for being so quiet. Fear not... work continues on the project, in quiet but pushing on.

For the moment we have some pleasant news... of particular interest to our German friends.

Now back in February I mentioned a rather pleasing email we'd received - in fact this was from our wonderful friend Daniel (108stars) who was writing a Retro Console article for the leading German Gaming magazine M! Games.

Such are the vagaries of publishing, the article did not appear when expected.

Now the Good News... Daniel's excellent "Alles Repro?" article was published in the M! Games 8/2010 issue published on July 2nd (page 92) ... and one will find therein mention and a screenshot of the Atari Owl Project.

Many Thanks to Daniel .. and we hope our German friends can avail themselves of the magazine and read his excellent article. We shall be having a copy sent over so that we can enjoy the magazine too.

Racing

The Motors TV raceday was immense fun - I qualified 2nd in class and then finished 1st in class with fastest lap in class in both races :)

I think the new livery was a big improvement too ;)

Racing News: Mallory Park 16th May

Well, the race entries have been confirmed so it seems that my next two races will be at Mallory Park on May 16th. They will be televised live on Motors TV (Sky Channel 413) throughout Europe at about 14:45 and 17:00 GMT Daylight Time.

The car is running again following my somewhat eventful return to racing after a 10 year hiatus at Brands Hatch and is now sporting a rather fetching new livery.

Regarding the Owl Project - work has also been progressing quite well on the days I'm not working on the Lola - so don't worry - it is not abandoned and it is moving forward.

All the Best,
Joe

The Other Thing

Just to reassure everyone that work is still progressing on the project - nothing as dramatic as the previous updates but steady progress.

Also I thought I'd let you know what the other thing is, which is taking up some of our time.

Can't tell you how good it is to be racing again. I'm a little rusty after many years away from it... but hopefully the next race will be less eventful and more competitive.

All the Best,
Joe (Atari Owl)
